An underdog story where the enemy is the status quo, and the hero is a misunderstood homeless crossdresser who runs for mayor to challenge it. It’s a Dramedy that’s funny, personally relatable, gut-wrenching, and based on a true story. ‘The Queen of Austin’ is in the Texas tradition of ‘Slacker’ with the grittiness of ‘Midnight Cowboy,’ the surrealism of ‘The Big Lebowski’ and the emotion of ‘Into the Wild.’
